What's Your Ministry?

Brad Larson

Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. ~ 2 Corinthians 5:20 ESV

If you are a follower of Jesus, you have a very important role in His kingdom. You are an ambassador.

Stay-at-home-moms are ambassadors.

High school students are ambassadors.

Construction managers are ambassadors.

Retired pilots are ambassadors.

If you are Christ’s, you are an ambassador.

Let’s get practical. What exactly is an ambassador and how might this apply to your life today?

  1. Ambassadors aren’t home. Ambassadors aren’t from here. So if you feel like you don’t belong, you kind of don’t. Your home is heaven, your king is Jesus, and this world is a strange place.

  2. Ambassadors represent heaven to the world. Although you may not fit in, we are not called to retreat from the unbelieving world. Far from it. We are called to enter in, to move toward the world in love. Don’t build a compound; live as joyful exiles representing Jesus right there.

  3. Ambassadors make a gospel appeal. God is making His appeal through His ordinary ambassadors. You carry the offer of reconciliation with God in your hands. God doesn’t delegate His appeal exclusively to those in vocational ministry; He delegates His appeal to you.

So here is the question: what’s your ministry? More particularly, in what part of your life are you leaning in to your ambassadorship? Even more particularly, what area of your life outside the church are you leaning in to your ambassadorship?

I do not mean to suggest we look away from Christ’s church, His beloved and blood-bought bride. Not at all! But our ministry is not only aimed inward at building up the people of God — it is aimed outward to share the offer of reconciliation to the world.

Jesus offers peace with God through His blood! What great news! So let’s share it! As I once heard, we should want heaven to be crowded.

Who has the Lord placed in your life? Start there. Pray for the people God has already placed in your life, and begin by asking them questions. Trust God’s Spirit to guide you into opportunities to make His appeal. Sometimes mission is merely submission to the Spirit, a response to an opportunity to share the love of Jesus.

Where will you go today? You carry the flag of heaven with you. Ask the Lord what faithful ambassadorship looks like today.

Christ is all,

Brad Larson
