The UFO Files Just Dropped… Should Christians Panic?

I didn’t have the release of the UFO files on my bingo card for 2026. But here we are. The last 6 years have been hard, but more than that they’ve been strange. This is just icing on top of the strange-cake.
Our minds are saturated by media content. They tell us anything and everything to get more engagement with their content. Media sources and social media personalities are constantly competing for our attention, claiming to have access to privileged information.
The truth is, it’s not hard to draw us in. We are a curious race. From the time of Adam and Eve we've desired privileged information (e.g. the tree of the knowledge of good and evil). Acts 17 tells us that, "all the Athenians and the foreigners who lived there would spend their time in nothing except telling or hearing something new.” Clearly, nothing has changed.
I’d guess that you're at least a little curious about the release of an official file about UFO sightings. For some, this is useless and inconsequential information. Others are completely invested. And for others, this is confusing and even concerning.
There are people claiming that this spoils Christian belief and shakes the foundation of our faith. Does it? Is this something that should shake us, concern us, or cause us to rethink the reliability of the Christian faith? What do we do with things as strange and mysterious as UFOs? More than that, what do we do with ideas, experiences, and events that we don’t understand or that don’t fit neatly into our Christian worldview?
We do what Christians have always done. We hold fast to the unchanging truths of God’s Word, especially the truths that are crystal clear. We focus on what God has clearly revealed in His Word and through His Son, the Word made flesh. The road of endless speculation leads nowhere good.
Hebrews 1:1-2 says, "Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son. That’s it. God has spoken fully and finally through His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus and His saving work is the perfect and complete revelation of who God is and what God wants for the world. Colossians 2 says that God wants us "to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God's mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.”
There's a lot of mystery surrounding the topic of UFOs (and many other things!), but the only mystery God really wants you to understand is Christ and the work He did to save you from sin and death. God has released a file for all to see: the good news of Jesus. Second Corinthians 5 says that God came near in Christ to reconcile the world to Himself. He came to save sinners. He is the way, the truth, and the life, the only way to the Father.
He lived the obedient life we failed to live. He took the death penalty for our sins. He rose again on the third day. He sits at the right hand of the Father and is coming back to judge the living and the dead. He is the only Lord and Savior. Anyone who repents and believes in Him receives eternal life and the free gift of Christ’s righteousness.
So do UFOs matter? Maybe. Maybe not. You’re not capable or called to make sense of every mystery in the universe. What matters is understanding and knowing God’s risen Son and living for Him. Spend your energy and time getting to know and follow Him. Lean on what you know to be true from Scripture. Build your life on Christ and God’s eternal word, and remember that the secret things belong to the Lord our God, but what is revealed belongs to us and to our children forever (Deuteronomy 29:29).
