From Ambition to Adoration

Hi there! My name is Connor Cox, and I’m the Lewisville Worship Minister for The Door Church! I am beyond blessed to have this opportunity to lead our worship team and our church family in worship and draw us all closer to God through songs of praise.

I began singing at a very young age, and as the years progressed, I began to really enjoy it! I started to sing everywhere I went, and I especially loved going to my church’s Wednesday night student ministry and getting to sing along with my friends. I longed for an opportunity to one day sing songs of worship in front of my friends.

These opportunities eventually came, and I started singing with my home church’s worship team at the beginning of my sophomore year of high school (2015) and began to lead worship once I became a senior in high school. During that season, I felt God directing me to consider worship as a full-time ministry. After a lot of prayer and reflection, God opened up opportunities for me to walk in obedience with His plan, and through that, I ended up going to Dallas Baptist University.

During my time at DBU, I had lots of opportunities to lead worship, and also to grow in my craft and my desire to serve God with the talents He so graciously gave me. I began to lead for DBU’s Chapel Worship program, and eventually became one of their Chapel Team Leads. I had a worship team of fellow DBU students that I was leading, creating worship sets for our chapels, and cultivating a culture that allowed our members to grow both musically and spiritually. All of this is also what I currently do now as a worship minister! During my time at DBU, I met my wife, Ashlyn, and we got married at the beginning of 2024.

When I was younger, my heart desired to be in front of people singing. Yes, I wanted to lead worship and sing songs of praise about God, but my intentions were more selfish – to simply stand on a platform in front of my friends to show off my singing ability. But by the grace of God, he has molded and shaped me into the man I am today.

I have the greatest opportunity to lead worship because He is worthy of all my praise. My heart was not in the right place growing up, but now I want to pursue Him with reverence and a heart that stands in awe of my God. I do not want this only for myself, but also for all of you who I get to serve here at TDC!

When we sing about the name of Jesus, the room can shift. My worship anthem for this season of my life has a line that says, “If all You ever wanted was my heart, then here it is. I lay it all on the altar.” This is my desire as I walk on the stage to lead others in worship. I want to create space for others to have an opportunity to have that kind of moment with God. My hope and prayer is that God will continue to use me to bring glory to Him, in whatever capacity that may be.
