Unashamed: The Key to Fearlessly Sharing Your Faith

“Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”(Matthew 6:21 ESV). Jesus delivers this precious gem of wisdom in the middle of His famous Sermon on the Mount. If you blow by this small line, you can miss how profound it really is, and you could miss its very practical implications.
Simply put, we all chase after the thing we value most. We all talk about the thing we treasure most. How do you know what your treasure is? Do a motive check. Take an inventory of your thoughts, words, and actions. What you find begins to reveal what you truly value most.
So, where is your treasure? Is it your reputation? Is it your kids’ success? Maybe it’s earthly wealth or comfort. The list of possibilities are endless. Where is Jesus on your list? Not only should Jesus be #1 on our list, He is the list! Everything good we have in this life is found in Christ Jesus.
Through His perfect life, His death & resurrection, and His ascension to heaven on our behalf, Christ has redeemed wretches like us from everlasting death and has given us the Holy Spirit making us God’s eternal sons & daughters! How on earth do we respond to such a treasure!?
Share with others the great treasure you’ve found, and show them Jesus’ love. It’s that simple.
You don’t need a seminary degree, a special formula, or an extrovert personality to be Christ’s witness. Do you have a pulse? Can you draw breath? Then breathe out the goodness of Jesus on others. People share what they value most. Is Christ your greatest treasure?
When my kids were younger, they would tell anyone & everyone about their latest obsession. Whether it was frog memorabilia or Beyblades, if they loved it, then everyone needed to hear about it. If I ask them about it now, they squirm in embarrassment. They’ve gotten over it.
Have we “gotten over” our obsession with Jesus? Have we graduated from child-like zeal?
The sad truth is, many people are simply playing church and have never truly treasured Christ through spiritual rebirth. Others have indeed been born again, but over time, through spiritual malaise, they’ve lost sight of the surpassing worth of Christ. It’s time to remember our first love!
Three times Jesus asked Peter, “Do you love me?” Three times Jesus followed that question up with, “Feed my people.” Our love for Christ is expressed when we feed others with Christ! Get in the game. Open your mouth. Start with those in front of you – your household, your co-workers, your neighbors.
As we take steps in obedience to Christ, as weak as those steps may be, something fascinating happens - our love for Him grows! Take steps this week. Pray with your spouse. Read Scripture with your family. Take a co-worker to lunch and listen for ways to bring Christ into the conversation. Invite a neighbor over for dinner.
Being a witness for Christ is not about putting on a front or selling a product. It is simply being who you already are: a bloodbought child of God who has never gotten over the fact that though we deserve God’s wrath, we are instead blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ Jesus.
The Door Church wants to help support & encourage you to be a bold witness for Christ. No one serves Christ alone. If you are not in a discipleship group, the best way to get mobilized for mission is to get into a group. Please fill out this form which will help us get you into a group.
If you are already in a Discipleship Group and would like to explore more about what being on mission looks like in your life stage and context, please reach out to me at jonathan@thedoorchurch.net. I would love to talk with you!
